More About My Battle with the Wizard!
As I rode the moose around, I was able to unfreeze many of the animals and meet a ton of new friends in the process. First, I met a deer. He was pretty cool. He asked me if I liked to lick blocks of salt. I explained to him that I was just a little kid and that I do like pancakes, but have yet to try blocks of salt. I told him to have at it though, and that salt licks were in aisle 24. And he went his merry way.
Our next chore was to unfreeze a some prairie dogs. They were really friendly and had squeeky little voices - just like you would expect. I don't think my friend the moose liked that they laughed at him for his high-pitched voice. I do have to admit, it was kinda funny - ironic - they say.
Anyway, I unfroze this caribou. She was the first to identify herself by name: Meng Lu. Evidently, she is from Asia. Then she asked, "Mr. Lucas, have you ever eaten at a resturant where adults sit at a big high chair and a man cooks food that they eat with sticks?"
"Oh my gosh - Yes Meng Lu!," I said. "Just the other day, as a matter of fact."
"Don't eat the beef," she said sternly. "It's not beef."
I hadn't eaten the beef, but I did see that she had a substantial scar on her hind leg. The moose gave me that look and I knew that the evil wizard must have had something to do with it.
Next, we stopped by to save a couple of beavers. I don't know much about them as a species, but assumed that they were fairly friendly. Perhaps it was just these two, but they were kind of obsessed with working - not talking. They kept singing, "That's the sound of the men working on the chain gang...."
I made every attempt to engage them in some friendly conversation, but they just shrugged me off. We moved on, my moose and me.
I told the moose to go over to those bears.
He was hesitant. "You scared of those bears?," I asked.
"Not scared of the bears, it's that raven. He still owes me a few hundred berries from our last poker game."
"There's more important things we have to focus on, moose," I explained. "Besides, once we get this job done, I'll get my dad to buy you all the berries you want."
The bears were just as I expected. One was named Ben. The other was Sasafras. They were originally from just south of New Jersey. Used to work a circus show, but had since retired. They were so grateful for being unfrozen. But, they warned, not all of the animals were on our side. In fact, the rumblings were that the evil wizard Cheney had placed spies among us.
I told them not to worry and stick with me. Our power was being together. The more of us that act as one, the better the chance we had at loosening the evil grip of power that this crazed, power-hungry wizard has unleashed.
